Sewing 101 for Adults

4 week class, 2.5 hours each

This course is designed to give novice stitchers a comprehensive foundation in machine sewing. Students will graduate with the skills they need to make a project from start to finish and will gain the confidence to begin tackling anything.

Students will make a tote bag with lining and interior pocket and a pouch with a zipper

Skills learned:

  • Machine threading and operation: sewing straight lines, pivoting, backstitching, changing machine settings, troubleshooting

  • Fabric selection

  • Making pocket

  • Pattern layout, grainlines, and cutting techniques

  • Seaming and topstitching

  • Installing a zipper

  • Incorporating a lining


Skill Level:
Novice. No experience needed. We provide machines although you are welcome to bring your own.
