Introduction to Patterns: Pajama Pants

You know how to use a machine and make a few things, but now what? Using commercial made patterns to create clothing, accessories and more is sometimes a mystery for the beginner sewist. Join me to learn how to decipher pattern instructions and the symbols found on the patterns themselves! In this 2 class workshop you will make a pair of pajama pants using a pattern from one of the major pattern companies.

What you will learn:

  • Interpreting pattern instructions and pattern symbols

  • Layout and cutting of fabric

  • Sewing a basic garment using the instructions

  • Creating an elastic casing

  • Basic hemming using a machine.

Class Pre-requisite: You must be able to use a sewing machine and sew straight seams for this class.

Class Size: Maximum 4 students (class must have 50% enrollment to run)

Materials: Patterns and elastic included. Fabric and thread to be purchased by student (you will need 3 yards of cotton or flannel fabric and matching thread).

Duration: 2 classes, 2.5 hours each (5 hour total)
